Draft a pattern for a baguette bag.
The baguette bag pattern I made uses those proportions.
Trim the cloth
Bouclé, lining, and interfacing fleece were all cut using the design.
I slashed the bag’s base down the middle so that I could use bouclé for the lining. The bottom interfacing was left as one continuous piece.
Create notches
I made a notch in each corner then folded my pieces in half to find the middles.
Stitch the hem of the bottom together.
Next I stitched the lining’s bottom pieces and the bouclé’s bottom parts together.
Stitch the bottom to the sides
I attached the bottom of each fabric type to one of the bag sides, then stitched them together.
I plan to fold the top corners of the bouclé fabric inwards, so I left approximately 3 cm (1 inch) unsewn at each one.
After that, I trimmed the seam allowance on the bag’s rounded edges to make the fabric lie more flat. This is what I did with all three materials.
Then I pinned the second side piece of each fabric type into position and stitched them down, again leaving the same 3 cm (1 inch) unsewn at the top corners of the boucle fabric.
At completion of the stitching, I trimmed the seam allowance on the rounded edges of the fabric.
Sew the lining and interfacing into place.
With the right sides together, I sandwiched the lining between the interfacing and the outer fabric.
I ironed the interfacing to the wrong side of the lining fabric and pinned the two layers together along the top edge. I stitched it shut thereafter.
Then, to prevent the fabric from shifting while I was pinning, I placed the lining and interfacing inside the baguette bag and weighted it down with a few objects.
Before I pinned the bouclé fabric to the lining, I folded the top edge inward by 3 centimeters (1 inch) and tucked the raw edge under. I then sewed the pieces together.
fasten the strap rings together
I fastened the straps to the purse with the metal rings that came from a discontinued set of earrings. However similar rings may be purchased at any craft retailer.
I started by taking the rings off their chains with my jewelry pliers.
To secure the ring, I folded over the appropriate amount of cloth on both the top and bottom of the bag.
I made sure to add a few centimeters so that I could tuck the raw edge in before trimming the fabric. Finally, I pinned the strips in place after folding in their sides so that they were narrower at the top.
I quickly made my way over to the sewing machine and finished securing the strips together. In addition, I stitched the top of the strip down after folding it a few centimeters.
As the cloth was now too thick to run through the machine, I hand-sewed the rings onto the side strips.
Fasten the strap in place
I made do with the blazer’s belt instead of a proper strap. The strap was easily customized by just determining the desired length on my body, cutting the material to fit, then sewing it onto the rings by hand.
Fasten the clasp
Since I didn’t have a zipper that was a good fit for this bag, I used press studs instead.
